JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Food Manufacturing Maintenance Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on all production equipment, machinery, and facility systems to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and compliance with food safety standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and thrives in a fast-paced food production environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on food processing equipment, packaging machinery, conveyors, pumps, motors, and utilities (air, water, steam, electrical).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues, performing root cause analysis to quickly minimize production downtime and prevent recurrence.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Install new equipment and perform modifications as needed.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with FDA, USDA, SQF, HACCP, and other food safety regulations, including proper GMP practices and allergen control.
- Assist with equipment breakdowns and emergency repairs during production shifts.
- Perform basic welding, fabrication, and machining as needed.
- Monitor and maintain facility systems including HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, and compressed air systems.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall plant performance.
- Collaborate with production, quality, warehouse, and sanitation teams to support overall plant operations.
- Follow all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout, GMPs, PPE, hygiene and sanitation, machine guarding, HazCom, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school certificate, associate degree in industrial maintenance, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 3+ years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or regulated production environment (highly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and electrical controls.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and electrical diagrams.
- Working knowledge of food safety standards and sanitary design principles.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and on-call work as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly, lift and/or move up to 150lbs occasionally with assistance as necessary, stand for extended periods, and work in varying temperatures (hot/cold/wet environments).
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Certifications such as welding or forklift operation.
- Experience in automated packaging equipment, fillers, sealers, or high-speed
production lines. - Basic programming or troubleshooting experience.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance tools.
- Refrigeration and fabrication experience (preferred, not required).
